On May 18, several hundreds of runners gathered at the start of the main
race of the Ninth Annual Prague International Marathon. The winner of
the main race was Willy Cheruiyot from Kenya (the winner of the last year’s
half-marathon), making a time of 2.11.56. In addition to the classic marathon
race, several more races were run and open to the public. Runners in those
races numbered in the thousands.

The Junior Marathon is the idea of Gelindo Bordin, a factory director
and Olympic winner. The Junior Marathon is a relay race in which each
of ten members runs a part of the marathon track. The semi-finals of
the Junior Marathon are held in large towns across the Czech Republic,
while the finals are held together with the classic marathon; that is,
on May 18 of this year.
