Looking back at Canoe Mattoni 2004
In the first week of June, Carlsbad welcomed Canoe Mattoni for the seventh time, reaching its climax in the weekend World Cup Wild Water Race. Fans could once again applaud the successful Czech canoeists headed by Michaela Strnadová, the winner of both World Cup events. But the week-long programme was not intended only for lovers of canoeing. As a part of the second year of the Canoe Mattoni Fest, Mattoni prepared an abundant programme accompanying the sports events: athletes took their turns presenting themselves with top bands in front of Hotel Thermal. The bands Divokej Bill, Monkey Business, Chinaski, or the Slovakian No Name entertained viewers.
The Sunday finals of the Mattoni Water Carnival, with 30 competing and quite original vessels, were also great fun. Even though some boats did not survive their launch, the spectators did not mind and they had a great time. The first prize, a Kia Picanto car, was awarded to four swimmers who hit the waves of the Teplá River masked as a case of Mattoni mineral water bottles. Lovers of beatuy were certainly delighted by the Aquila Aqualinea Swimwear fashion show, the star of which was Miss Czech Republic, Jana Doleželová.
