The popular Kanoe Mattoni water-sports event,
which is already in its fourth year, took place over the weekend
of the 16 - 17 June. In the centre of Karlovy Vary we had the
opportunity to not only see a unique sporting spectacle, but a
rich accompanying programme as well: Martin Maxa, the group A-TAK,
the singer Kristýna, the conjurer Daniela Maxová, a trial show,
a basketball exhibition with the best players of the Mattoni NBL
against VIP personalities, a performance of acrobatic rock and
roll, Eskimo roll contests, competitions for children, and a host
of other attractions. The all-day programme was compered by Lucie
Výborná.

Kanoe Mattoni 2001 World Cup, the gold medal was won by Michaela
Strnadová, while the Swiss Eichenberger (left) took second place

The chairman of the Portuguese parliament Dr. António de Almeid
Santos together with the district administrator for the Karlovarský
region JUDr. Josefem Pavlem also participated in the announcement
of the results of Saturday's Kanoe Mattoni 2001 World Cup white
water descent contest. |

Entertainment was provided by Ondrej Havelka and his band Melody
Makers. |

Sunday's full cultural programme got off the mark with teenage star
Kristýna. |

Anyone who got hungry during the extensive programme and didn't
want to leave to get something, could enter the competition in eating
salad against the clock. |

Talented youngsters also displayed their basketball skills alongside
the stars of the Mattoni NBL. |

A considerable prize (a kayak for Rodeo) along with the challenge
cup for victory in the public Kanoe Mattoni race was taken by Adam
Fuchsík. |
